Abstract

This article's purpose is to make some comments on the condition of the elderly in Brazilian society, a fact which greatly injures the dignity of the human person. For the development of this work we will take into consideration, preliminarily, human rights, demonstrating that they have a valuation for a long time and its conservation is a major factor to a life with dignity. The treatment given to old or older in the course of time has undergone changes, specifically in some societies, and currently appears as item worthy of concern to the United Nations bodies, given that in this century, there were already efforts to adapt the life of the elderly to social environment in which they live. This concern focuses on the fact that the incidence of violence suffered by this part of society, coming from many directions, including in the family environment, for those who in theory should be careful with them. As part of our country, we have the Elderly Statute that directs this treatment, providing rights to the elderly so that they have a more comfortable rest of life in all aspects, addressing also criminal offenses that will be incurred those who offend certain rights assured them. Finalizing are covered points that would favor a better life of dignity for these people.
