This search aims to identify and describe the behavior of the spectacled bear - Tremarctos ornatus, in captivity in Salvador Zoo, Bahia. The observations occurred from October 29 to November 26, 2011 from 08:30 to 17 hours, with quantitative sampling (note how many times the animal exhibits each behavior observed) and compared with bibliographic data on their behavior in the wild. The observation was focal animal at fixed intervals every five minutes, totaling 25 hours and 30 minutes. These animals are sensitive to the development of stereotypies in captivity. Some examples of stereotypical behavior of spectacled bears in captivity are the rotating head, moving constantly from one to the other side of the enclosure (pacing), body rocking, excessive masturbation, movements of the tongue and licking the enclosure objects (grids, often), or paddling movements (HOHENDORFF and GIACOMINI, 2007). For stereotypies may have a decreased incidence, it is recommended to provide environmental enrichment activities.
