Microbiological contamination of water is a global reality and represents a potential for transmission of diseases. Ensuring good water quality is very important to the tourism, population health and environment preservation. Thus, this paper aims to analyze the water quality of Guarajuba and Arembepe beaches, being widely used for local leisure and tourism in the metropolitan region of Salvador. The methodology for the analysis of water was the technique of Multiple Tubes and estimated by the Most Probable Number (MPN). The findings were compared with the parameters proposed by CONAMA Resolution 274 /00. The results suggest that the studied beaches are excellent for bathing. It was found also that there is greater concentration of coliforms on Sunday in the Arembepe’s beach (57.5%) compared with the Guarajuba’s beach (32.4%). The results obtained with the water microbiological analysis are suitable for as they are used.
