Estudo preliminar do ciclo reprodutivo da população de Iphigenia brasiliana (Lamarck, 1818) (BIVALVIA, DONACIDAE) na Baía de Guarapuá, Cairu - Bahia

Iphigenia brasiliana (Lamarck, 1818) is an edible species of bivalve that occurs in almost all the Brazilian coast. The knowledge of their reproductive cycle is essential for the proper management practices for the rational exploitation of this bivalve. This work presents a preliminary study of thereproductive cycle of the population of I. brasiliana in the Bay of Guarapuá/BA. The organisms were sampled manually by digging up the substrate randomly at low tide, to detect the presence of animals, totaling 76 specimens. The characterization of the microscopic stages of development of the gonads wasbased on observation of the amount of interfollicular connective tissue, degree of gametogenic cell development, aspects of gonadal follicles or acini and the presence of amoebocytes. After preliminary analysis of histological sections six stages of sexual maturity were defined for females and three formales.
