Abstract

Introduction: The combination of TB and DM points to important relationships that impact on Public Health, if it is known that patients with DM have a 2.44 to 8.33 times greater risk of acquiring tuberculosis than a patient who does not. such underlying disease. Aim: To evaluate, according to sex, the outcome of the disease regarding extrapulmonary involvement, deaths and cure in patients with tuberculosis associated or not with diabetes mellitus in the city of Salvador-BA during the years 2010 to 2018. Methods: This is a descriptive, retrospective, quantitative epidemiological study supported by secondary database analysis from January 2010 to December 2018, where we performed the analysis of reported data among patients with Diabetes Mellitus and Tuberculosis in the city of Salvador, Bahia. The results were tabulated in Microsoft Excel version 2013 and the statistical tests used Graphpad Prism. We used the Chi-square tests and Fisher's exact test. The statistical test used was Chi-square and Fisher's exact test. Results: The association between TBDM is greater in patients aged 49 to 59 years, with regard to tuberculosis alone, and is greater in patients aged 20 to 30 years. Gender was not relevant as to whether the patient had TB or no association with DM, but the analysis of the relationship between sex and age in TB-only patients was higher in men aged 40-69 years and women aged <39 years. and> 70 years. Conclusion: TBDM is affected in older patients than in patients with TB alone. The male gender is more affected in both types of patients; however, the gender does not directly influence on presenting or not the disease. Age by sex was relevant only in patients with TB. Regarding the outcome of the disease, gender was not statistically relevant when assessing whether it interfered with the patient with or without diabetes.
